Crash Course to Editing Sports Short-Form

What this video includes:

I have been an aspiring content creator for an estimated three years. There have been lulls in my creations as I have tried to find my footing in the creation world. As a whole I have picked up a few tips and tricks. TikTok has been my main platform and I have learned a lot about it’s uses and features. In this video I speak about how I have learned to edit on the app. Since new users may find editing intimidating I walk through what an average creator may do to improve their editing. I begin with the idea of inspiration. Many people don’t know what to start because they don’t know what they want to create. I find that deciding on a style is easier when being inspired by content you enjoy watching. And because of my interest in the sports field I get most of my inspiration from sports and athletic content. Once you have a vision for your edit I walk you through the steps of getting started. This video is very beginner friendly. And TikTok does not require any paid additions for special features like many other advanced applications. This video will teach you how to easily edit a video and help you prepare for your next one.

Why sports edits are popular in social media:

Sports edits have became a popular form of entertainment on social media in more recent years. Certain platforms highlight this type of content because of how much engagement it brings. Sports have so many fans that edits have the capability to highlight big moments and bring communities together. Their are fan accounts that are dedicated to making sports edits, and they can even get requests for more of the same content. Fans also enjoy the ability to engage with each other and build a larger network of other’s who share the same passion. (How Fan Edits Are Shaping the Future of Sports Media - WSC Sports, 2025). And since most of these edits are short-form their is no need for long-time commitment; viewers can watch, like, and comment all within 20 seconds and move on with their day. The algorithm sees that and pushes more of the same content out causes a larger demand for more edits.

How my video will be found:

Many users are constantly looking at tutorials on how to do something themselves. In this case, users will probably find my video by searching for tutorials on YouTube. Relevant users will be searching for similar videos such as “How to edit” or even “How to make a sports edit”. YouTube’s algorithm will help push relevant content to these search phrases and as a result my video should appear. As well as when users are watching similar content my video can appear on the suggested bar. For these users, it will also change their algorithm for their home page and recommend similar content to what they recently or constantly watched and my video may end up as a recommendation there as well.

Why watch:

Viewers will watch my video because of it’s simplicity and easy to follow tips. I clearly explain all of my steps in a how-to style in order to help others recreate what I have done. My title explicitly states what my video will teach and relevant searches will bring them to my video. If my video is showing up then it is relevant to what they are looking for. It is also a screen recording format which will show the process as if they were doing so themselves. This makes it easier to follow along with especially for beginners.

Conclusion:

Wolf explains that the phenomenon of doing something yourself by a video tutorial has a sense of trust built because the creator is usually doing so for themselves and it makes the situation more high stakes. (Wolf, 2016). For my video, though the stakes may not be as high as someone performing their own renovations at home, showing that this is a style that I am familiar with gives me some credibility in that I know some of what I am doing. This video is not for advanced editors but for amateurs like myself that are dipping their toes into the world of editing. Overall, my video will help users learn how to do what I did in this video through my step-by-step process. And I hope that they will be able to learn from it and take away a few tips that will help them in the future. I hope viewers find it as valuable to watch as I found it to post.
